Notable Events 🌎
Here are some notable events this week.
White House Correspondents Dinner 🍜
Trevor Noah hosted the White House Correspondents’ dinner. His set was hilarious and didn’t leave anyone safe from his spotlight. You can also read the best jokes as well.
Heatwave in Pakistan and India ☀️
The Indian subcontinent has recorded above-average temperatures for weeks. Heat-related weather watches or alerts are now in effect for hundreds of millions of people. – New York Times
One question to ask is: How does climate change impact heatwaves worldwide?
We’ve already seen the Pacific Northwest experience a massive heatwave last year, and it’s bound to get worse.
It’s, unfortunately, the most vulnerable that are affected by heat waves.
Lack of air conditioning and ways to cool down can impact survival. Lower income populations currently face a 40% higher exposure to heat waves than people with higher incomes, according to a new study. By the end of the century, the poorest 25% of the world’s population will be exposed to heat waves at a rate equivalent to the rest of the population combined. – Science Daily
Weekend Thoughts – Influencer Economy 📸
I think about payments and fintech most days, however, at Coachella, I kept thinking of themes of:
- Engagement
- Being seen
If you walked around Coachella, you’d see tens of thousands of people taking photos of themselves or their fans.
I went to Coachella mainly to have a great time with my partner, Vero, and experience amazing music. I realize that not everyone has the privilege to enjoy Coachella free from influencing when someone’s primary source of income is influencing on Instagram, Tik Tok, or Snapchat.
To many, Coachella is a work event. While work can be fun, it’s still work at the end of the day. I took zero recordings each concert because I wasn’t “On,” but many people were.
To Influencers, Coachella was the Olympics, and they were competing.
